To promote the internationalization of education, support the development of the Clinical Medicine Program, and contribute to the undergraduate education review and evaluation, the International Cooperation and Communication Office, in collaboration with the School of Clinical Medicine and the official partner of our University, Tunku Abdul Rahman University (TAR U), launched the initial student international exchange program. A group of 10 students and one faculty member from the School of Clinical Medicine embarked on a 12-day study visit to Malaysia on January 12, 2025.

Tunku Abdul Rahman University, the first university in Malaysia founded by Chinese and a member of the “Belt and Road” International Science Organizations Alliance, has been our university’s official partner since signing the collaboration agreement in 2021. Over the years, both universities have deepened their cooperation through joint academic seminars, online exchange programs, and virtual global study tours. This in-person study visit, designed to explore Malaysia’s medical education, healthcare system, and local culture, was the result of months of communication, planning, and refinement, marking another milestone in expanding partnership.

TAR U provided state-of-the-art teaching facilities and an outstanding faculty team for our visiting students and faculty member. The program featured a well-structured, multi-dimensional curriculum, including both foundational and specialized courses. In anatomy classes, students dissected models to understand human structures. Clinical medicine courses covered diabetes management, case studies, and insulin usage. In medical research sessions, students learned about the molecular biology of tumor development, while medical humanities courses focused on cancer screening, palliative care, doctor-patient communication, and family support. Our students actively participated in discussions, exchanged ideas with professors, broadened their knowledge, enhanced cross-cultural competence, and built friendships with peers from different countries and regions.

During the visit, the delegation also explored the history of early Chinese immigrants in Malaysia by visiting the Kuala Lumpur Chinese Heritage Museum and other cultural sites. The museum’s exhibits and archives vividly depicted the significant contributions of Chinese immigrants to Malaysia’ssocioeconomic development. Through this experience, students gained a deep appreciation of the perseverance and resilience of their ancestors, as well as their commitment to preserving traditional Chinese culture. This visit enriched their understanding of Malaysian Chinese history and strengthened their cultural confidence.

At TAR U’s Kampar campus, students were impressed by the beautiful environment and state-of-the-art educational facilities. The university’s affiliated hospital provided an integrated platform for theoretical learning and practical training, offering students firsthand exposure to the development and application of both clinical medicine and traditional Chinese medicine in Malaysia.

The successful completion of this program provided students with a specialized and customized international exchange platform, allowing them to acquire professional knowledge, make friends from different countries, expand their global perspectives, and develop independent thinking and problem-solving skills in a multicultural environment. We will continue to expand international learning opportunities, focusing on educational excellence and global talent development to cultivate highly competent medical talents with international competitiveness.
