Nazarbayev University Delegation Visits Xi'an Medical University

On April 29, a delegation from Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan, visited Xi'an Medical University. The six-member delegation included Marat Tavassov, Vice President of Nazarbayev University; Kanat Zhumanov, Deputy Director of the University Medical Center (UMC); and Bolat Saktashev, breast surgery expert at the UMC. Vice President of Xi'an Medical University, Li Xueping, attended the meeting. Liu Siyang, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, chaired the meeting.


Li Xueping introduced our university profile, strengths in medical education, and talent development initiatives. She emphasized the significance of the partnership in the context of the China-Central Asia Xi'an Summit and expressed the university's intention to strengthen ties with Nazarbayev University. Li Xueping encouraged both institutions to collaborate in areas including medical education, scientific research, and clinical practice, fostering mutual growth and contributing to the enhancement of healthcare systems in both countries.


Nazarbayev University, recognized as a leading research-oriented institution in Kazakhstan, is distinguished by its innovative approach and internationalization strategy. In his address, Kanat Zhumanov expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage in dialogue with Xi'an Medical University and conveyed the interest in establishing long-term cooperation in talent cultivation, joint research, and clinical exchange.


In-depth discussions followed between the two institutions. Participants from Xi'an Medical University included Gou Xingchun, Director of the Department of Science and Technology; Lin Xiaobo, Director of Breast Surgery at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical University; Liu Yunxia, Director of Education Office at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical University. Both sides expressed strong intention to pursue substantive collaboration through student exchanges, faculty visits, and joint scientific projects.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Li Xueping presented commemorative gifts to the visiting delegation. The group also toured the Human Life Sciences Museum and Institute of Basic and Translational Medicine.


This visit marks a significant step in Xi'an Medical University's ongoing efforts to expand international engagement in alignment with the Belt and Road Initiative. The partnership with Nazarbayev University is expected to deepen in the coming years, contributing to the advancement of medical education and the long-term strategic partnership between China and Kazakhstan.
