The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Medical University was founded in 1937. It is located at No. 167 Fangdong Street, Baqiao District, Xi’an. It is a National-level Baby-friendly Hospital, a National Reliable Hospital, and a China Chest Pain Center (standard version). It is a Grade III A-level hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, and rehabilitation.

The hospital is the second clinical medical school of Xi’an Medical University, including a clinical medicine department and an anesthesiology department. There are 6 teaching and administritive sections, including the hospital office, the party office, the teaching department, the student department (also the Youth League Committee), the teaching quality evaluation office, and the training center. And there are 10 teaching and research offices: internal medicine, external medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, five sense organs, medical technology, nursing, anesthesia, general practice, and diagnosis.

The hospital covers an area of 109 acres, with a construction area of 177,400 square meters, and currently has 1,737 employees, including 205 professors and associate professors, and 302 doctors and masters. The hospital was to provide 800 beds but 1205 beds are actually offered and 50 clinical medical technical departments are set up. Among them, cardiovascular medicine and medical imaging are key clinical specialties of Shaanxi Province; ophthalmology is a provincial-level superior discipline; cardiovascular medicine and ophthalmology are Shaanxi Provincial Clinical Medicine Research Center; the central laboratory is the Key Laboratory of Ischemic Cardiovascular Disease of Shaanxi Province; Ophthalmology, Cardiovascular Medicine, Neurosurgery, Respiratory Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology are school-level key construction disciplines. Pediatrics, Endocrinology, Anesthesiology, Medical Imaging, and Urology are key supporting disciplines at the school level; the Department of Physical Examination and the Department of Medical Cosmetology are featured disciplines. In 2019, the number of outpatients and emergency visits was 763,000, and the number of discharged patients was 50,000. The average hospital stay was 7.4 days and 29,000 operations were performed. In the past five years, the hospital has published more than 860 papers in various domestic and foreign journals, 57 SCI papers, 32 invention patents, 13 textbooks, and 46 projects at or above the provincial level, including 4 funded by the National Natural Science Foundation.
