On July 2, the inauguration ceremony of London Met Health Institute, Xi’an Medical University was held in the lecture hall of the Weiyang Campus. As Shaanxi Province’s first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution for medicine, the event was attended by Gary Davies, Deputy Vice‑Chancellor of London City University, UK, other British representatives, officials from Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education and Shaanxi Provincial Health Commission, Yu Liping, Party Secretary of Xi’an Medical University, Gong Shouping, President of Xi’an Medical University, and other university leaders. The ceremony was hosted by Li Xueping, Deputy Party Secretary of the university.

Yu Liping extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all guests. He stated that the university adheres to open-door education and carries out talent training and scientific research cooperation with overseas partner institutions. The founding of London City Health College is a key practice to implement national policies on opening-up in education. Boasting 75 years of educational experience, Xi’an Medical University joins hands with London City University to ensure high-standard development of the college. Further high-level cooperative majors such as clinical medicine are planned for the future. He called on all departments to offer full support for the college’s development.

Gary Davies delivered an address, noting that the college aims to cultivate international‑minded medical talents and advance high-level research cooperation to tackle global health challenges including cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and emerging infectious diseases. He highlighted the flagship joint programme — MSc in Tumour Immunotherapy, expecting to foster more leading talents for global healthcare.

During the ceremony, Gong Shouping presented Gary Davies with an honorary professor certificate of Xi’an Medical University to facilitate regular collaboration in curriculum development, faculty-student exchanges and joint research. Leaders and guests jointly unveiled the plaque, marking the official launch of the institution.

The university will take this inauguration as an opportunity to strengthen international medical talent training, improve globalized education, serve regional social development, improve public health well-being and deepen China-UK people-to-people exchanges. Cadres at department and section levels, persons-in-charge of the First and Second Affiliated Hospitals, and student representatives attended the ceremony.
